How it works
Every purchase at Tux Tap follows the same six steps. Each of them is recorded in writing – you know in advance which price applies, how the goods reach us and when you will be paid.
Step 1 · you
Via the form or by e-mail: photos, the number(s) on the shell, the approximate quantity and your location.
For large lots, overview photos and an estimated weight are enough.
Step 2 · us
For known types we give you a price range – usually within one working day. If a part is unclear, we ask specific questions.
Step 3 · us
Price per piece or per kilogram, valid for the stated date and metal price, together with the hand-over and settlement method.
Precious metal prices change every day – which is why every offer carries a validity date.
Step 4 · together
Delivery by appointment, shipping by freight forwarder or – for larger quantities – pick-up. What makes sense depends on quantity and region.
Step 5 · us
We check type, number and condition. Lots settled by assay are decanned, milled and sampled.
On request you receive a retained sample or attend the sampling.
Step 6 · us
You receive a purchase receipt or credit note listing every item. Payment is made by bank transfer.
Whether we pay per piece or by assay depends on the quantity and type of goods. We suggest whichever is fairer for your lot.
Option A
For single converters and smaller quantities of known types. The price is fixed in advance.
Option B
For large lots, loose ceramic and unknown types. You are paid for the actual precious metal content.
Lab assay
For settlement by assay, the shell is opened first and the monolith removed. The ceramic is weighed, finely milled and mixed thoroughly so that every sample represents the whole lot.
Samples are taken from the homogenised material and analysed for platinum, palladium and rhodium – depending on the lot by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) or wet chemistry (ICP). The result is given in ppm, i.e. grams of metal per tonne of ceramic.
Weight, content and the daily price give the metal value; processing and refining costs are deducted. The credit note shows each item separately so that you can check the calculation.
Paperwork
Logistics
Photos and the number on the shell are enough for a first estimate. We reply in writing, usually within one working day.
